Empowering Inclusion: DAPP Zimbabwe launches new project to strengthen disability rights

2025-06-13

DAPP Zimbabwe is excited to announce be co-impending the Strengthening Civil Society Regional Partnership in Favor of Ratification of the African Disability Protocol (ADP) project funded by the European Union (EU) through Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe (LCDZ). The goal of the project is to support 2,400 people with disabilities (PWD) in Zimbabwe in attaining their human rights and freedoms as outlined in the African Disability Protocol.

The project is running from June 1, 2025, to December 2028 and focusing on the rural districts of Mudzi, Murehwa, Shamva and Bindura. To achieve the set goal, we will engage a diverse network of stakeholders including 600 People With Disabilities in each Distrcit, Organizations representing Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and Government Officials.

This project aligns with our two lines of the Child Aid mode which are Line 4 which emphasizes the empowerment of families in political, social and economic spheres and Line 7, which focuses on district development through the integration of disability rights into local infrastructure and planning.

DAPP Zimbabwe has a strong history of engagement in these provinces. Our longstanding partnership with the government and local leadership provides a solid foundation for success. In Mashonaland East, our Farmers' Clubs Project in Hwedza has established effective relations that will benefit Mudzi and Murehwa. In Mashonaland Central, we are returning to familiar territory in Shamva and Bindura, building on the legacy of the European Union-funded Youth Actions for Disability Rights initiative (2019–2021).
