Agriculture

Empowering small-holder farmers to build resilience against climate shocks for increased food, nutrition and income security.

We support smallholder farmers in building resilience against climate shocks, aligning with Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy 1 on food security and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Zero Hunger by 2030. Our initiatives, "Farmers' Clubs" and "From Communal to Commercial," complement government efforts to improve food security, nutrition and income in rural communities. We equip farmers with skills and knowledge to enhance their livelihoods, focusing on climate change management and sustainable practices.

Smallholder farmers play a vital role in rural areas, contributing to local economies, food security, cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. Empowering them is essential for rural well-being and resilience. Our demo plots serve as classrooms for farmers to learn effective farming practices, promoting sustainable agriculture and community development. By supporting smallholder farmers, we aim to improve household food security and nutrition

Education

Promoting education as a human right: We equip individuals especially the youths with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a better future.

We believe that education is the cornerstone of development and the foundation for a brighter future, especially for young people. Education has the transformative power to break the cycles of poverty, illiteracy, disease, climate shocks and inequality. Through our two educational institutions, we empower over 500 students annually with essential skills necessary for survival. Our educational programs align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Government of Zimbabwe’s Education Model 5.0, which emphasizes education and skills development.

Our focus is to provide vocational training to youth whose academic qualifications do not meet university or polytechnic standards, enabling them to improve their lives. We emphasize entrepreneurship and innovation as pathways to national development. Additionally, we train our staff to be leaders in development while addressing critical issues such as poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease.

Health

Empowering people to be active participants in their own health because only the people can liberate themselves.

Our Passion for People Movement empowers individuals and communities to take ownership of their health, driving progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3.3 (UNDP), which aims to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by 2030. Our health programs, HOPE Bindura and Total Control of Tuberculosis (TC TB) in Makoni, work to enhance access to HIV and TB treatment, care, and support services.

We collaborate with local organizations on community-based health projects to promote access to treatment, encourage health-seeking behavior and foster community participation in raising awareness. Additionally, we establish support networks, such as the Treatment Buddies System (TRIOS), to assist people living with HIV and TB. Since 1980, we have reached over a million individuals across the country with information about HIV and TB.

Together, we promote access to treatment, care, and support services for HIV, TB, malaria, cholera, as well as water sanitation and hygiene. Out two health projects are located in Manicaland and Mashonaland Central provinces.

Community development

Building capacity of families and communities to create a conducive environment for the children to grow, thrive and reach their full potential.

To address the challenges faced by children in our society, we work closely with the government and other civil organizations to strengthen social safety nets and improve household food security for children through community development programs.

Our Child Aid initiatives promote children's rights and advocate for their access to necessary resources in a safe environment, allowing them to realize their full potential. These projects focuses on 8 to 10 key areas, with health, food security and education as core components.

Additionally, our projects address cross-cutting issues such as climate change, gender-based violence and substance abuse. Families are encouraged to enroll as members and commit to active participation in the program. They organize into Village Action Groups (VAG) comprising 30 to 40 members. Each VAG has two volunteers trained by DAPP to facilitate training sessions and support actions taken by VAG members within their households and the broader community. Our three Child Aid projects are located in Bindura, Shamva districts in Mashonaland Central province and Mudzi and Murehwa Districts, Mashonaland East province.

Emergencies

Providing aid assistance to families; restore their dignity and hope so they can get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.

When disaster strikes, DAPP provides immediate assistance to help individuals maintain their dignity and regain their independence. Our emergency response is guided by four core principles: humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. We ensure access to essential necessities such as food, clean water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), toilets, and clothing. Our aid also includes multipurpose cash transfers to support those in need.

In addition to immediate relief, we focus on sustainable projects that create a long-term impact. By enhancing community capacities, we enable individuals to develop awareness, knowledge and skills for adaptation and improved livelihoods.

Our goal is to empower communities to withstand future disasters and thrive. Through our interventions, we provide critical support, promote resilience, and ultimately contribute to the well-being and self-sufficiency of affected populations. This way, we help individuals and communities rebuild their lives and create a more secure future.
